INFORMATION DISPUTES COUNCIL

On May 1, 2011 at the Media Freedom Forum (Tsaghkadzor, April 30 - May 1, 2011), organized by RA Human Rights Defender’s Office with the assistance of the European Union, it was announced about the establishment of Information Disputes Council (in Armenian).

The main objective of the Council is to protect the freedom of speech, access to information, as well as human dignity and the right of personal life.

The functions of the Council are: to come up with advisory expert conclusions on court litigations on libel and insult, private life protection, and freedom of information; to provide consultations to the Armenian legislative and executive authorities, local self-government bodies and citizens.

The members of the Council are: Secretary - Shushan Doydoyan, President of Freedom of Information Center; Boris Navasardian, President of Yerevan Press Club; Aram Abrahamian, Chief Editor of “Aravot” daily; Ara Ghazarian, Deputy Director of “Arni Consult” law firm; Manana Aslamazian, Director of “Alternative Resources in Media” project.

   In 2014 the Information Disputes Council rendered the following expert conclusions:

   In 2013 the Information Disputes Council rendered the following expert conclusions:

1. Opinion of August 21, 2013 on the litigation between Armen Darbinian, Rector of Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University, and the founder of “National Idea” online, “Center for Political Studies” LLC (in Armenian, in English).

2. Opinion of July 31, 2013 on the complaint of Investigative Journalists NGO against the ruling of the Court of General Jurisdiction of Shirak Region (in Armenian, in English).

3. Opinion of July 9, 2013 on the lawsuit of Harutyun Sargsian versus “Tsayg” TV company (in Armenian, in English).

4. Opinion of June 17, 2013 on the ruling of Court of General Jurisdiction of Tavush region upon the lawsuit of “Ijevan Road Construction and Exploitation” CJSC versus the founder of “Ijevan” TV channel, “Ijevan Studio” LLC, and the TV’s correspondent (now - Director) Naira Khachikian (in Armenian, in English).

5. Opinion of May 21, 2013 on the court case of “Zhoghovurd” daily’s founder, “Editorial Office of ‘Zhoghovurd’ Newspaper” LLC, and the daily’s correspondent Sona Grigorian versus businessman Khachik Khachatrian (in Armenian, in English).

6. Opinion of March 25, 2013 on the lawsuit of RA National Assembly deputy Tigran Urikhanin versus blogger Edgar Barseghian (in Armenian, in English). 

7. Opinion of March 5, 2013 regarding the ruling of the Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts of Yerevan on the suit of Susanna Baghdasarian versus “Hayk” newspaper, the newspaper’s correspondent Arman Galoyan and Svetlana Arakelian (in Armenianin English).

8. Opinion of February 5, 2013 on the suit of businessman Khachik Khachatrian and his company “Yerevan Poultry” versus the founder of "Zhoghovurd" daily, "Editorial Office of 'Zhoghovurd' Newspaper" LLC, and the daily’s correspondent Sona Grigorian (in Armenian, in English).

9. Opinion of January 21, 2013 on the suit of Vanadzor resident Mariam Yepremian versus “MIG” TV company of Vanadzor and founder of “News.am” online agency, “News.am” LLC (in Armenian, in English).

2. Opinion of December 5, 2012 on the suit of Hrazdan resident Gagik Atasian versus Mnatsakan Harutyunian, Director of “Hrazdan” TV company (in Armenian, in English).

3. Opinion of November 19, 2012 on the court case of blogger Tigran Kocharian versus the founder of “Chorrord Inknishkhanutiun” daily, “Trespassers W.” LLC (in Armenian, in English).

4. Opinion of November 12, 2012 on the court case of Lernapat Village Elder Vano Yeghiazarian versus Adrineh Torosian, correspondent of “Hetq” online (in Armenian, in English).

5. Conclusion of October 26, 2012 regarding the court rulings on the suit of Nver Poghosian, former Governor of Gegharkunik region, versus founder of “Zhoghovurd” daily, “Editorial Office of ‘Zhoghovurd’ Newspaper” LLC, and the newspaper’s correspondent Anna Torosian (in Armenian, in English).

Conclusion of October 15, 2012 regarding the ruling of the Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts of Yerevan on the suit of Margarita Khachatrian, Chairwoman of “Zinvor” (“Soldier”) Association of NGOs, versus “Hraparak” daily founder, “Hraparak Oratert” LLC (in Armenian, in English).

Conclusion of October 10, 2012 regarding the ruling of court of general jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash administrative districts of Yerevan on the suit of Hayk Babukhanian, Chairman of the Editorial Council of “Iravunk” newspaper, versus founder of Report.am news portal, “Khmbagir” LLC, and the portal’s observer Edik Andreasian (in Armenian, in English).

2. Conclusion of October 20, 2011 on the case of RA National Assembly MPs Samvel Aleksanian (unaffiliated), Levon Sargsian and Ruben Hayrapetian (members of Republican Party of Armenia faction) versus “Dareskizb” LLC, founder of “Haykakan Zhamanak” daily (in Armenian).

3. Conclusion of July 22, 2011 on the suit of Tigran Arzakantsian, RA National Assembly MP, member of the Republican Party of Armenia, versus “Iravunk Media” LLC,  founder of “Iravunk” newspaper (in Armenian).

4. Conclusion of June 27, 2011 on the suit of Tigran Arzakantsian, RA National Assembly MP, member of Republican Party of Armenia faction, versus “’Yerkir’ Editorial Office” LLC, founder of “Yerkir” daily (in Armenian).

5. Conclusion of May 31, 2011 on the suit of the  Second President of Armenia Robert Kocharian versus “Hraparak Oratert” LLC, founder of “Hraparak” daily (in Armenian).

MEDIA ADVOCACY GROUP

Media Advocacy Group, MAG (operating since November 29, 2010), is a unique platform through which topical issues of the media field are discussed and brought to the attention of state bodies, as well as recommendations are made when needed.

The MAG lists 20 members, representing journalistic associations, traditional and new media, NGOs and state bodies of Armenia.

The MAG operates under “Alternative Resources in Media” project, jointly implemented by Internews Network (USA), Eurasia Partnership Foundation, Yerevan Press Club and Internews Media Support public organization with the assistance of USAID.
