On November 17 another pre-election debate of “Yerkri Demky” (“Face of the Country”) was held on the evening air of “Yerkir Media” TV company. The cycle is produced by Yerevan Press Club under “Alternative Resources in Media” project, supported by USAID.
YPC Expert Gegham Baghdasarian hosted Davit Sanasarian, Board Member of “Heritage” party, and Araqel Araqelian, Head of the Youth Union of “Orinats Yerkir” party. The debates centered on the amendments of the RA Electoral Code, issues of parties’ inner democracy, the role of youth party organizations, the draft law “On Lustration”, worked out by “Heritage” parliamentary faction.
The next “Face of the Country” will be aired on Thursday, November 24 at 18.10 (rerun - on Monday, November 28 at 16.15).

On November 18 another program of “Press Club” cycle was broadcast by “Yerkir Media” TV company. The “Press Club” talk-show cycle deals with journalism ethics and is produced by Yerevan Press Club in frames of the “Promoting Freedom, Professionalism and Pluralism of the Media in the South Caucasus and Moldova” programme, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe.
The theme of the talk-show was untrue and discrediting information. This topical issue was considered by the show participants in the context of numerous defamation suits versus Armenian media. The discussants, Production director Zhirair Dadasian and Chief Editor of “Yerkir” daily Bagrat Yesayan, presented their stances on the problem. The talk-show experts were lawyer Ara Ghazarian, member of the Council on Information Disputes, Shushan Doydoyan, Head of the Freedom of Information Center, Ashot Melikian, Chairman of the Committee to Protect Freedom of Expression, and Robert Pinker, CoE expert, Consultant at UK Press Complaint Commission. The discourse was led by Aram Abrahamian, Chief Editor of “Aravot” daily.
The next “Press Club” show will be on the air of “Yerkir Media” on Friday, November 25 at 18.35 (rerun - on Tuesday, November 29 at 14.15).

On November 22 the 24th show of “Yerkragund” (“Globe”) cycle went on the evening air of “Yerkir Media” TV company. The current show was produced by Yerevan Press Club under YPC and Internews Network project, “Dialogue Building Between Armenia and Turkey”, supported by the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor of US Department of State.
The guests of the program host, YPC President Boris Navasardian were Stepan Grigorian, Head of Analytical Center for Globalization and Regional Cooperation, Aghavni Harutiunian, correspondent of “Azg” daily, orientalist Suren Manukian and YPC Expert Mikayel Zolian. The discussion focused on the modernization processes in the South Caucasus countries and Turkey.
The next “Yerkragund” show will be aired on “Yerkir Media” on Tuesday, November 29 at 19.15 (rerun - on Thursday, December 1 at 16.15).

On November 22 another program from “E-Club” weekly cycle went on the online broadcast of “A1+” TV company (www.a1plus.am). The “E-Club” is produced by Yerevan Press Club in cooperation with “A1+” TV company under “Alternative Resources in Media” project, supported by USAID.
The program was dealing with Internet TV - history of its creation and development, the programs’ content and quality, etc. The “E-Club” news block told about the new Head of Apple Arthur Levinson, about Google Music, as well as money transfer possibilities through Facebook Send Money new application. The ratings of online sources and headlines of last week were presented by YPC Expert Gegham Baghdasarian. The websites’ top list is still headed by Facebook, while the most popular news was again the YouTube video on the welcome speech of RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsian at the concert of Tata Simonian, held on November 12 in Yerevan.
The next “E-Club” will be aired on “A1+” on Tuesday, November 29 at 15.50 (rerun - on Thursday, December 1 at 18.20).
On November 17 Gavar court of general jurisdiction of Gegharquniq region started hearing the suit of Gegharquniq Governor Nver Poghosian versus founder of “Zhoghovurd” daily, “Editorial Office of ‘Zhoghovurd’ Newspaper” LLC, and the newspaper’s correspondent Anna Torosian. The reason for the suit became the article “The Governor Took A Bribe”, published in “Zhoghovurd” on October 7, 2011. The plaintiff demands to refute the information discrediting his honor and dignity, and pay off 2,5 mln AMD (about $ 6,500), of which - 2 mln as moral damage compensation and 500,000 as court expenses.
At the session of November 17 the parties presented their arguments. The next session will take place on December 5.
On November 17 the regional daily “Gyumri-Asparez” placed on its front page a Quick Reader Code enabling smartphone users to access the newspaper articles and comment on them via Internet. The QR Code is a novelty in Armenian newspapers. According Chief Editor of “Gyumri-Asparez” Levon Barseghian, the innovation aims to expand the daily’s young audience.Tweet
On November 18 in Yerevan the presentation of the DVD “Karabakh’s Wounds” was held. The disk includes seven documentaries by well-known Bulgarian TV journalist Tsvetana Paskaleva. The films were shot by Tsvetana Paskaleva during the warfare in Mountainous Karabagh, since May 1991 till May 1994. The documentaries are released in a DVD-format in six languages (Armenian, English, Russian, French, Spanish and Bulgarian), with the support of the Armenian Music Center.Tweet
